There are about 200 ranking factors that Google uses in determining organic search page rankings. Domain-related factors, on-page factors, off-page factors, site-level factors, and numerous technical SEO factors. The list just goes on! So we’ve compiled five quick SEO changes based from 2018 trends.
First things first… Update your website!
Having handled a lot of our clients SEO, we find that most of them hasn’t updated their website for the past five years. I cannot stress enough the importance of having an updated website. It doesn’t have to be a whole redesign, the changes can be as simple as adding information on upcoming events. Google relies on the content of your website to determine how it’s going to show on the user’s SERPs. It is best to update your meta titles and descriptions regularly. Think of it like this: Google’s web crawler isn’t a mind reader. It cannot interpret your website. You have to tell Google exactly how you want your page to appear.Second.. Make sure your website is “mobile-friendly”
Google now relies more on the mobile version of your page for indexing and ranking since March 2018. If you have a website for your business that you haven’t updated for the last three years – it is safe to assume that it is not optimised for mobile and is solely restricted to desktop. You should redesign your website with the user’s experience in mind. Keep it minimal.Lastly… Take advantage of Google Ads Structured data and extensions
Visit your Google Ads and try to see if you’ve set up some extensions to your Ads. An example of great extensions to add are those that guides the user towards conversion. Make sure to create organised, eye-catching structured snippets and extensions and link it to where it matters – your phone number and website. Google is now able to create its own meta-description from existing content. Take some time to write some lines, otherwise Google will produce the content automatically which may or may not work in your favor.
