You’ve probably seen Google’s new way of displaying search results and with all the mixed reviews many people are left asking…what does this mean for me? The new way of showing search results is very beneficial for the user. It will take people time to adjust – let’s face it, the majority of us fear change but without it, we just stand still. These new additions are optional and can help to define the search results we get but only if we want to use these functions.
The new sidebar can be used to target results more specifically to you can search within results for blogs or news for example. Although there has been a lot of negative talk from active blog users, this change is a step forward. However, one thing that might not be so positive is the location of the ‘Pages from Australia’ option. This option is much less obvious and is now located on the search results pages only, not the homepage as before. So the big question remains…. will my rankings be affected by this?
Google has now started indexing real time results (like blog posts, tweets and facebook business pages) which has made SEO more interesting than ever before!
SEO will be affected to some extent with ‘results from web’ more important than ‘results from Australia’. Link Building strategies will need to focus on both a global audience and Australian sites. Google may have factored the fact that more options and better search results are available if it delivers ‘results from the web’ as compared to ‘results from Australia’. SEO Professionals who are nimble will modify their link building strategies to respond to this change
It will take a bit of time for us all to adjust to the new look, just like it did when Facebook changed its image, but once the newness has settled in, people will feel more comfortable and we’ll all wonder what the fuss was about in the first place!
